The PDN Optimizer uses a two stage process to determine the optimum strategy for populating capacitors in the design being analyzed:
- Expert-based synthesis uses 5 different strategies based on commonly used techniques to create and refine capacitor populations. This process runs quickly and produces results that can be used as-is or used as a "seed" for subsequent optimization.
- Domain-aware genetic optimization operates on the output of the first stage and uses a successive "generational" algorithm to improve design performance. This is not a generic optimization algorithm; it is tuned for decoupling capacitor optimization and produces better results, more quickly than a generic optimizer would.
