PDN Decoupling Optimizer

HyperLynx AC PDN Optimization

The HyperLynx Power Delivery Network (PDN) Optimizer performs post-layout optimization of decoupling capacitor values and locations. It can reduce part count, total cost and the number of different capacitor types, using a combination of expert-based and genetic optimization algorithms.

Expert-based optimization agorithms

The PDN Optimizer uses a two stage process to determine the optimum strategy for populating capacitors in the design being analyzed:

  1. Expert-based synthesis uses 5 different strategies based on commonly used techniques to create and refine capacitor populations. This process runs quickly and produces results that can be used as-is or used as a "seed" for subsequent optimization.
  2. Domain-aware genetic optimization operates on the output of the first stage and uses a successive "generational" algorithm to improve design performance. This is not a generic optimization algorithm; it is tuned for decoupling capacitor optimization and produces better results, more quickly than a generic optimizer would.

The HyperLynx PDN Optimizer produces a hyperlinked, HTML report that lists all the different capacitor configurations analyzed, along with detailed performance, configuration and cost data for each. This allows designers to evaluate the tradeoffs between different potential solutions and pick the configuration that best meets their particular design goals.

Getting it right - run SI and PI simulations accurately

There’s no point in running SI/PI simulations if the tools you’re using don’t have the accuracy, capacity and performance to do the job in a reasonable timeframe.

This recorded theater presentation shares some of the advanced technology that HyperLynx uses to produce accurate results.
